Read this review of the John Deere 455 lawn tractor. For long engine life and superior resale value it's hard to beat a John Deere tractor. I recently upgraded from the 345 in order to get more power and the diesel engine. The mower is surprisingly quiet for such a large motor, probably due to the 3 cylinders instead of 2. It has an hour meter to aid in servicing and to ensure proper credit for resale value. I also got the hydraulics ports to install the front blade for snow removal. The hydraulics allow for up and down blade action as well as tilt. It is a large mower with a wide stance which helps carry the 54" or 60" deck. I chose the 54" deck for ease of entry onto the tractor and maneuverability. It has an available seat which includes arm rest and a cup holder which I will probably get. It would make the job of mowing 1-3 acres a little more bearable. It also has cruise control and an adjustable steering wheel. You can install weights on the wheels and the front to help give stability and traction when using attachments. As for the price, the mower lists for 12000.00 If you shop you should be able to get one under 10k depending on the deck size. I have owned other brands over the years including Toro , Craftsman, and Cub Cadet and I like the big John Deere the best. There are other quality brands out there but in my opinion the larger John Deere mowers are as good as any for the price. However, if you are looking for a tractor for really large mowing jobs and/or light duty discing or snow removal consider a utility tractor such as a New Holland Boomer with Super Steer which I also have and absolutely love....... well if a man could love a tractor. Working Fun!!!
